Here is a overall real nice coat style button. Hard to find excavated French 9th regiment button. Flat one piece, This is a transitional style button, 1775-1776 pattern with the tail of the nine looped higher like a dot. Also shows the standard broken circle with scroll atop and dot. Clear face and fine detail. The back has the full turret shank of the period. The older style buttons were used up till the point the 9th incorparated into the 18th regiment, and these buttons used after 1776 to post 1783.Very interesting button

The 9th was noted for many operations in Virginia and often being excavated at Yorktown, where this one was most likely found.
