Although this is a pattern British button used by Royal navy Captain's and Commander's, the U. S. Did adopted this pattern into service for the Continental navy. So i have decided to put it in this section.

This pattern is a flat one piece gilt brass button. Other than the impressed design of the anchor and chain, there are no other decorations on it. The front has the fouled anchor with "V" shaped crown. At the top we have a chain link instead of the cable. . The chain is coming off the anchor's top ring and goes to the left side. It then goes under the left hand end of the straight stock. Then over and under the shaft. Then under the left fluke and wraps under the pointed crown, then up under the right fluke and off to the side with two chain links and stops. This pattern also has the anchors stock with vertical lines. The shaft, crown and flukes have horizontal lines. The back is plain with the full stand up shank, although bent over. No backmark. This is a high quality button in fine condition and was dug near Charleston S.C.

Backmark: "Blank (23mm)"
