While this is a fairly common button, the quality of it is not, this one is of high quality with almost 100% gilt, hardly any loss at all, with very crisp details. There are also a lot of slightly different die patterns

Here is a totally different die variation and quality, a non dug early General Service or Militia button. Could be purchased by any militia unit during the 1830"s and is most likely of English manufacture. This is a gold plated, button and has strong features. Depicts a patriotic eagle facing right, beside a shield, which is lined within top portion. 7 upper stars and 6 lower stars, wide oval inner border, outer rope border, on a lined background. The back has the full shank with the backmark of "IMPERIAL/.STANDARD." which is a trademark and denotes the quality, gilting of the button. This is a one piece coat size flat button. An extremely good showing button, measures @ 22mm.

Backmark: ""IMPERIAL/.STANDARD."dm, within solid rings-(22mm)
