Superb condition non-excavated War of 1812 era, infantry officers button. Slightly convex, silver plated copper, 1 piece button. Made around 1812-1815. Coat size with very fine features. High raised relief pattern with plain background. Depicting a droop wing eagle that is facing left. Standing on an oval with open ends on top. Very thin 5 pointed star within the oval. In the eagles right hand it holds the olive branch. Encircling around the outer edge in large roman letters "UNITED STATES INFANTRY". With a raised dot at the bottom. There are a few different varieties of this button this one being the rarer of them all. The back has the full upright shank intact. No back mark on this one. As with all officers buttons this was made with a Sheffield Silver finish.
