HISTORY
Though privately manufactured by James Jarvis of New Haven, Connecticut and his partners, the Fugio Cents were the first commissioned coin by the, United States government on April 21, 1787. Of course there was a bribe in place. Only about 400,000 were made before congress found out that Jarvis was not meeting his obligation and his contract was dissolved. Many designs are found featuring the sundial, with sun rays above, (MIND YOUR BUSINESS) below, meaning time is fleeing, mind your business or affairs. "FUGIO" and "1787" surrounding. The reverse has thirteen linked circles surrounding, representing the 13 colonies. With inside "UNITES STATES" or "STATES UNITED", the center reading "WE ARE ONE". These are fascinating coins from our earliest history as a nation, all very historic.
