WELCOME TO THE NEW AND IMPROVED OLD REBELLION WAR RELICS
Very attractive fully cases 1/6th ambrotype(on glass)plate of a cavalry sergeant. Plate size is 2-3/4 x 3-1/4. The case is a union "patent" gutta percha, thermoplastic case in very good condition. Made by A. P. Critchlow. & Co. The interior has the decorative felt lining on the left side, with the photo framed in a nice gold colored frame.
The photo iteslf is in good condition and shows a stern looking cavalry sergeant in a sitting pose leaning on the table. Has his saber in front of him, and wearing his gauntlets. His hat is to the left of him on a table. The buttons and stripes look painted on.
But the best part is on the back which shows a lock of hair????? been there a long time, and is very cool. There appears to be period writing on the makers insert, which as far as i can tell reads,"Jan 20 -May ? M. EW""Sat Aug-7- 1859".
I got this about 20 years ago from a local collector( i should have bought more)this has never been on the market before.
