Excavated 2nd infantry regiment coat button. Made of cast pewter and is 1 piece WITHOUT border. The front has the "UNITED * STATES * encircling the regimental number 2 which is in the center. This is an unusual button in the fact that it is the only one in the series without a border along with the stars after United and States. The face is clear and legible, does not have the shank. Very solid early button Made around 1798-1802

This button was excavated long, long ago by John G Bowen at Fort Dearborn, Mississippi. Has accompanied by note from digger
