Stunning button, great non dug condition 1798 - 1801 period. Official Department Navy officer's or Attache' to navy department coat button. Made of one piece gilt brass, with exceptional impressed design. Most likely British made. Depicts federal style eagle facing right with upraised wings. Has the spade type shield with small upright anchor within. Left talon has four arrows, right talon has olive branch with six pedals. Above eagle's head are 11 six pointed stars. Back has full stand up shank, with back mark of double gilt/ arrows within inner/ outer circles. Extremely nice condition
